One can perhaps make a reasonable case that taking pornographic photos of children should be illegal and immoral. I’d be more tempted to agree to that.

But the mere posession of such photographs? After that the damage has been done. Why should it be illegal to own the photo if you’re not the one who took it?

because you’re creating a potential market and audience for the child’s humiliation, degradation and abuse

you don’t create markets, you pander to them. Those people already exist.

Or would you prefer “Ghettos exist, we do not profit from them, violence exists, we did not create it?”

ok, pandering to a market then

the main point is that if you went around shoving around (or even accidentally leaving) photos of some 3 year old being anally violated without impunity it’s going to expose more people to their humiliation and abuse

in the real world (aka not libertariania) nobody apart from the sick minded really wants to see that shit so the possession laws serve a purpose

You answered your own question. These people are going to get these images somehow. The market will always exist for child pornography, even if it is illegal. Maybe my whole view of this is skewed because I do not view child pornography and therefore I’m not exactly familiar with what is contained in child pornography. But I guess my point is punish the people actually doing the bad things, like anally violating children and filming it. Not necessarily the people who are in mere possession of an image they did absolutely nothing to create.

that doesn’t answer my question at all. these people will always get these images, of course that’s true. however, how is that an argument against anything? some people murder and get away with it. some people murder others for snuff films for an audience and distribute and possess them without the police knocking on their door. that doesn’t make the act or films morally permissible, nor does that mean those involved should be totally outside of the law.

i think your viewpoint is completely skewed because you’re trying to compare this as an individual rights issue to drug use and child pornography by its very nature is not and never will be the same thing as taking drugs. yes, i would agree on the last point that those who actually create those images and videos are a lot worse than those who merely possess them, but that does not give possession and especially not distribution a get out of jail free card.

libertarians of the world

if your child was sexually violated by a child abuser, they taped it, and then sold it on to the highest bidder or gave the video to someone or even a network of paedophiles, would you seriously be okay with that video being distributed to all and sundry lawfully?

really?
